I SPENT a day in Salisbury last week and visited two of its public toilets, both of which had turnstiles and were charging 20p for entry.

I asked both attendants if they had any problems with drug users. “Not here we don’t sir,” was their reply.

Here in Andover, we have one public toilet permanently closed – it’s been too long to be temporary now – in Sainsbury car park.

Rumour has it that it will eventually be pulled down, and the other in George Yard car park that has a permanent security man, not an attendant, must be costing a fortune as his wages are not subsidised by charging an entrance fee!

You may recall in your newspaper that Ian Carr of TVBC and his cabinet were looking into the problems, with various solutions suggested to them!

We have not heard a peep since; obviously not such a problem for them, then! We have not heard a word from Andover Town Council either, who supposedly represent the Andover public.

Do all these councillors realise that with the demise of Andover town with its lack of shops, facilities and leisure centre they won’t have an Andover ward to represent soon!

I would ask Mr Carr if he would be polite enough to reply again, but I think he’s too busy planning his retirement at the moment!
