A STATION commander, who very often was a group captain, would be called the stationmaster.
A squadron leader would be called a squabbling bleeder.
A group captain would be called a gruppenfuhrer.
I was at the Lamb Inn in Andover years ago where the landlord was an ex RAF officer.
Another ex RAF officer arrived outside to meet him when a customer came in and said there was an officer and a gentleman outside.
The landlord then asked the customer to go outside and send them both in.
