AT Brighton Floral Club Martina Coleman’s demonstration named ‘Strictly Flowers’ was designed around the four judges from Strictly Come Dancing fame.

Starting with Craig Revel Horwood, four large manipulated aspedistra leaves with midollino sticks running through the leaf were positioned into arch shapes. Tall green Anastasia chrysanthemums, foxtail fern and purple allium stems completed the contemporary display. A very good tribute to Craig – spikey!

The second arrangement was set on a tall wine glass, starting with tall foxtail fern stems at the base coloured heuchera and astrantia leaves, with white flowering spirea sprigs and choisya ternate making a frame for the profusion to come. Pink flowering weigela stems, purple lisianthus, small pink roses mixed with white freesia, made it so feminine that it could only be representing Darcey Bussell.

Straight and upright — this represented Len Goodman. At the base aspidistra and rhododendron leaves were placed with hard ruscus stems together with a selection from an Asian mix of foliage. In front were tall red Naomi roses spaced in a line with pink upper secrets roses. Completing the design Martina added olieria sprigs and a linear grass.

The following flamboyant arrangement was a contemporary arrangement starting with tall black palm leaves, foxtail fern spikes, heliconia flowers, green Anastasia chrysanthemums, deep red alstroemeria and finishing with two beautiful lime green cymbidium orchid stems. Bruno Tonioli would have certainly approved.

Last and by no means least the glitter ball had to show up somewhere. On a tall sundae glass was perched a base of various foliage with white calla lilies, white roses and craspedia stems finishing with a stem of white cymbidium orchids. Glittered midollino sticks were placed at intervals around the base of the foliage and brought together and tied at the top representing the ball. It was a most effective and super way to finish the evening.

The club’s next meeting will be on 7 June and is a members social evening titled ‘Anything Goes’. Just bring any flowers and containers as members are all here to help as in any other workshops Visitors are welcome 7pm for 7.30pm.
