THE GENERAL ELECTION

In a few days we shall be in the throes of the General Election, and worry and excitement will be the fate of most. At such times all should bathe freely with Cleaver’s Juvenia Soap, the refreshing, invigorating and rejuvenating effect of which is marvellous. Nothing equals it.

ANDOVER RURAL TRIBUNAL

Henry Phipp, game and vermin killer, Moody Down, passed to B 2.—Mr.Talbot said they wished this case to be settled by the Appeal Tribunal, as the man was for many years employed by Mr.H.Nichol, a member of their tribunal, although he was not now sitting.—Exemption refused with a view to appeal.

A.Purvet, 18, under carter, was appealed for by employer, the father. There were four horses and when not with the horses he did other work on the farm of 148 acres. There was only one other carter employed.—The Tribunal gave conditional exemption, as he was a whole time worker on the farm, and had been for a long period.

A.Kimpton, 18, under carter to Mr.Sandell, employed entirely on 600 acres, was a similar case. He had been on the farm for two years.—Conditional exemption.

C.Ball, sheep shearer and hurdle maker, employed by Mr.Redman some times, and working for himself at others, was an appeal for review by the military.—Adjourned for medical examination.

C.J.Goater, dairyman, Upper Bullington, employed entirely on the farm.—Conditioanl exemption.

E.Seaward, blacksmith, Linkenholt, was again before the Tribunal. He now offered to go to Upton two days a week and help his father. The work on the Linkenholt estate was now three months behind. —Conditional exemption so long as he worked at Upton two days a week.

A.Shergold, Vernham, blacksmith, was appealed for by his father. They shod 140 farm horses, and horses for four bakers. They were doing all they could to help at Faccombe, where there was no blacksmith. He did not go to Coombe, the smithy there was closed, but he went to Hurstbourne at times. He would undertake to help all the other smiths all he could.—Conditional exemption.

CALLING ALL CHILDREN

Hello Cornerites,

How many of you watch the television programme “Dr.Who?”—I bet a lot of you do. I know it is one of my favourite programmes. How would you like to meet a real Dalek? If you go along to the Summer Fair at the Andover County Boys’ Secondary School on Saturday, 15 July (that’s a week tomorrow)you will see the original B.B.C.Dalek, plus a speaking and singing radio-controlled Army Dalek. I have heard that a Cornerite, Carol Cook is having a Dalek to her birthday party-I understand that he is a friendly one, though!

Another big attraction at the Fair will be the Troggs — they are opening it at 2.15. Pete, Ronnie and Reg used to be pupils at the school.

There will be many attractions at the Fair-I hope that you will go along and then write to me and let me know what you thought of the Daleks.

Cheerio, UNCLE TED.
