JOHN Porter’s account of Neddy [2 February, page 16, Neddy the horse] brought back memories of my grandfather but I have never heard of that story.

By the time I was on the scene, horses were replaced by electric floats with which my grandfather had a lot of trouble with. At least the horse knew the route and where to stop! He was a milkman for over 50 years and this is commemorated by a mural in the Chantry Centre car park next to Waitrose.

Incidentally I still get our milk delivered by a milkman, in glass bottles, so it is still possible.
