YOUR article ‘Toilets protest changes pace’ (Advertiser 30 March) has prompted me to write.

I personally feel that the majority of Test Valley Borough councillors have lost all respect for most of the public of Andover.

I would like to say, if they expect the public to leave their cosy homes after a day’s work, on a set day, to wander to a booth, often having to queue and vote for someone who, in the majority of cases, they have never heard of, yet alone seen, then they should go out of their way when elected, to converse with these people. It doesn’t matter if a public consultation regarding the closure of public toilets is not law or is not in the rule books, sheer common decency and respect for their public should prevail!

My father always told me, if you want respect then you have to earn it and honesty is the best policy.

Not holding a public consultation makes the majority of people I have spoken to, feel something is being hidden from them, and when people think that way, they stop trusting!

When people no longer trust, they either don’t vote again or vote for any other but!

Perhaps these councillors have forgotten this is ‘Our Andover’ not ‘Their Andover’ and if they expect us to run businesses and visit the town to help promote the businesses, then they should consult with the people over anything that will affect them!

What is the real reason TVBC councillors won’t agree to a public consultation regarding the public toilets?
