SEVERAL of your correspondents have expressed surprise at the manner in which our council managed the closure of the George Yard public lavatories.

If it is possible, they acted in a way which was both high-handed and underhand!

But it should have come as no surprise. Cllr Phil North served his council apprenticeship under Ian Carr, who had a strong record of arrogant decision making against the expressed views of Andover residents; the restaurant in the Guildhall, the bandstand and even the Town Council being among the most egregious.

Like Ron Wood (Letters 4 May), I do not believe that national party politics should have any place in local politics. But while it does Andover will always have a Conservative-led council, free to do what it will, without regard to the views of the electorate.
