Act of genuine kindness was really appreciated

WE would like to express our thanks to a wonderful woman and her daughter for the return of our collie, Bella, as in the moments of sheer joy we foolishly neglected to to take her name and address except that they lived in the lower part of Weyhill Road west of the railway bridge.

Following bathing, Bella for some unexplained reason had disappeared, something she has never done before as she and her inseparable collie companion of many years, Hollie, never stray more than a few feet from each other.

Something had spooked her – what, where or why we will never know.

Mild but ever increasing panic ensued.

Being a nervous dog, definitely not traffic-wise and not wearing her identity disc which had been removed before her bath, I found myself walking the local roads armed with small photos of Bella, asking whoever I saw if they had seen a small collie dog.

In between, reports were passed to the police and dog warden.

Bella was spotted in a totally bewildered, frightened and exhausted state near the very busy roundabout at the top of Weyhill Road by this wonderful woman who managed to corner Bella and persuade her she was a friend.

She took her home, fed and watered her then phoned the police. She phoned the dog warden, a scheme run from Manchester who refused to give any information despite having all the facts previously reported to them. TVBC take note!

This woman, undaunted, then took the trouble to find Bella’s home thanks to information being given by another kind woman with whom I had spoken earlier, and Bella was reunited with us some four hours after her disapperance.

As I write this I am moist of eye at this wonderful act of unselfishness, fully realising that the milk of human kindness still flows, given the opportunity, in the Andover community.

My wife and I thank you and your pretty teenage daughter most sincerely, with grateful and heartfelt appreciation and would like to make a contribution in your name to a charity nominated by yourselves.

David Duke, Weyhill Road, Andover.
