Living in fear in the car park

EVERY time we park on the Shop Mobility bays in the multi-storey car park my heart races with absolute fear as cars swing around the corner and have to brake hard to avoid hitting me in my wheelchair.

My husband now needs a Shop Mobility scooter to get him around town owing to his painful legs, his walking is now very limited.

Whosoever designed these disabled bays did not think of the accidents waiting to happen in the position they placed the bays.

At one time I heard rumours that the Chantry floor level was to be designated to disabled use.

I have noticed that a driver of a car used to transport disabled people is much more careful around this corner, mainly because of course they understand to look out for anybody on wheels!

So could our councillors kindly investigate for us and make my arrivals and departures much safer than in the present system.

Please change the whole disabled parking bays in a much safer way. Also more prominent signs would be an excellent idea until the council can make better and safer parking for us not so able-bodied users of the multi-storey car park.

Mrs Julia Lloyd, address supplied.
