LAST saturday evening my partner and I found to our utter horror a hedgehog at the bottom of our recently emptied wheelie bin on Junction Road.
We removed him and on closer inspection it became obvious that he had been the victim of a cruel stunt involving a roman candle firework, to which he was still coiled onto.
Miraculously he was still alive and as we gently sprayed him with water, to hydrate and soothe any possible burns, he revived further and within half an hour he was on his way, his spines a little charred but otherwise unhurt considering his terrible ordeal.
What kind of a person inflicts mindless suffering and torture upon such a dear little creature?
All I can say is you know who you are and you should be utterly ashamed of yourselves, but I doubt you are or ever will be.
Thank goodness the outcome was not as tragic as it could have been.

As soon as I saw the title I knew it was going to upset me and I was right, how can anyone do this to a poor defenseless animal is beyond me and to do it as a joke, where is the funny bit about this, there is none. I do not imagine this will be solved as to who did this as most of society classes animals as second class and non important as how many times do you hear on tv people say 'you wouldn't even treat a dog that way' insinuating people are more important than animals which to animals lovers is not the case.
I live in the country and put food out in my garden every day for the wild animals and I have 3 hedgehogs, Jackdaws, there is a mummy and a baby Jackdaw and he follows her round shouting for food and she puts the food in his mouth from hers and before she has even turned round he is shouting at her for more, there is also Doves, Pigeons, Sparrows, Chaffinches and a Robin, 4 baby rabbits and an assortment of wild things coming to my garden to eat and it brings me so much happiness just watching them through the window eating and playing with the bunnies chasing each other about, at 11pm on the dot every night I get the 3 hedgehogs come out and feed.
But to some sick people these animals are there for fun and torture, I do hope they will be caught and punished for what they did but as I said before I doubt it and all I can wonder is what sort of family they come from to have the mindset to do something like this as I know my children would not ever think of doing something like this as I have brought them up to respect others and to love animals.
I feel for the poor lady who had to see this poor hedgehog in this state but praise her greatly for doing what she did and saving the hedgehog but let's just hope people do not read what happened and think it is a good idea for a bit of 'fun'.
All I can say is it saddens me what a sick world we live in.
