MANY will have seen on television or have read of the devastation on the island of Haiti and the many thousands who have been left homeless as a result.
After the immediate priority of trying to find possible survivors in the rubble the next major effort is finding shelter and clean water for the population who are in desperate need.
We are pleased to say that at the time of writing the Rotary charity Shelterbox has already sent 1,700 boxes to Haiti from the prepositioned stock in Curacao and El Salvador where Shelterbox has warehouses and a further 1,600 are en- route.
Just under £4,000 in donations has already been received in Andover but more is still urgently needed.
This obviously depletes stocks so more urgent donations are necessary to replenish those and keep up the momentum of the charity. Andover Rotary Club would ask readers to help us help others in this effort.
We understand everyone has financial constraints on the family budget but if you can possibly support this charity as so many have done in the past we are sure the people of Haiti will appreciate our help and prayers at this time.
You can be assured that over 90 per cent of any donation goes directly on aid, which is much higher than many charities.
More useful information can be obtained from the website ww.shelterbox.org.
You can donate on line at www.rotaryappeal.org.uk or if you wish please send cheque donations payable to Andover Rotary Club c/o: Rotarian John Stewart, 63 Conholt Road, Andover.
