Solent Stevedores has scooped the prestigious People Development in Cargo Handling award at this year's International Bulk Journal Awards which celebrates excellence in the Maritime Bulk industry.

The company was shortlisted alongside companies from Abu Dhabi, Ireland and the USA and Zak McElvenny, Group Compliance & Standards Manager, was there to receive the award on behalf of the company.

Operations director Ian Jacobs said: “The judging panel of 15 senior executives from around the globe particularly liked the fact that our entry highlighted both the commitment and focus that the company invest in when developing our staff. We have two Training Managers who are continually ensuring the training of our people is kept updated and the ongoing development of a multi-skilled workforce enables us to cope with a surge in activity.”

Solent Stevedores also sponsored the Bulk Logistics Excellence Award with companies from Belgium, Indonesia, the Netherlands, the UK and USA all competing.

Ian Jacobs Operations Director presented this award to David Chenowith, commercial manager of T. Parker Host from the USA.
