AN Andover jeweller has been awarded a £400 grant by Test Valley Arts Foundation enabling her to expand a thriving mobile jewellery workshop scheme for the benefit of the wider community.
Ruth Facey had previously developed her idea of The Travelling Jeweller at her own expense following a steady growth in demand for such workshops at a wide variety of venues such as village halls and arts centres.
The Arts Foundation grant has allowed her to buy much-needed additional workshop equipment such as hand torches, heatproof mats and two bench vices.
“The trust’s decision has been a great encouragement,” said Ruth.
“With access to this equipment people of all ages can discover their own creative potential and the results from a one day workshop are always remarkable.
“Being a mobile facility I can teach anywhere, and often have to improvise, but this brings about a great working atmosphere.”
