Fans of classic cars will be in for a treat in Winchester on Sunday March 19 as the city’s MG Owners Club celebrates its 25th anniversary.

The Winchester MG Owners Club Cobweb Spin is taking place throughout the city on that day from 10am to 2pm.

The annual Cobweb Spin is an informal gathering of classic and sports cars of all types, designed to blow away those garage cobwebs that have gathered over the winter. It has been held in various forms since 1993 and regularly draws over 100 cars.

This year over 130 cars are booked in, dating from the 1930s right through to the last of the MG line and they will be joined by some other marques such as Vauxhall, Austin and Morris.

They will be travelling from as far afield as Dorset and Buckinghamshire. Cars will be displayed along Castle Avenue and beside the Great Hall. There will also be cars displayed in the courtyard of Elizabeth Court (HCC Offices) in front of the Law Courts and in front of the military museums in Peninsula Square.

The Mayor of Winchester, Jane Rutter will be attending and selecting her favourite of the day. All cars have pre-registered for their space and the popularity of the event has been such that the organisers declared it fully booked several weeks ago.

There is no charge for this event and the public are welcome to come and enjoy the cars and chat to the owners. A charity collection will be made in aid of Combat Stress, which is one of the Mayor’s Charities this year and it is hoped that visitors will contribute generously.

Combat Stress are a military veteran’s mental health charity providing treatment for ex-Service personnel suffering with mental ill-health probelms including post-traumatic stress disorder.
