PREVIEW:

Salisbury Playhouse, Autumn/Winter Season

SALISBURY Playhouse marks the centenary of women being given the right to vote with the regional premiere of Her Naked Skin by Rebecca Lenkiewicz this autumn.

First produced at the National Theatre, this epic story of the Suffrage Movement in Edwardian Britain will feature a company of local women playing alongside a professional cast and run from October 4 to 20.

The Autumn/ Winter 2018-19 season at Salisbury Playhouse also includes Mike Leigh’s Abigail’s Party which runs from October 30 until November 17.

The theatre will once again showcase the best touring productions including Matthew Kelly in Alan Bennett’s The Habit of Art (September 17-22), one of the best-loved musicals Salad Days (October 22-27) and Spike Milligan’s The Goon Show (September 4-8).

The season in the Main House runs until February when Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Crack’d runs from February 15 until March 9.

There is a full programme of theatre in The Salberg including productions by Hoipolloi (September 21 and 22) and a new play by Nicola Werenowska, Silence, which hurtles between Warsaw and London (November 13-17).

Theatre for families includes Me and My Bee from ThisEgg on September 29 and three productions for the October half term: Your Toys (October 31) which is a gigantic adventure packed with original live music, puppets and humour; Perfect (November 1) is the touching story of a boy meeting his disabled baby sister for the first time, and I Wish I Was a Mountain (November 2) uses rhyme, live music and a smattering of philosophy to reimagine Herman Hesse’s classic fairytale.

This year’s pantomime is Beauty and the Beast written by Andrew Pollard and directed by Ryan McBryde, the team behind last year’s award-winning Jack and the Beanstalk. Beauty and the Beast starts on December 1 and is running for an extra week until January 13 to accommodate demand.

Christmas will see the return of The Night Before Christmas in The Salberg for younger audiences.
