REVIEW:

Grease, AMTC Starlights, The Lights, Andover

ON THURSDAY, August 2, The Lights Andover were treated to one out of four performances of Andover Musical Theatre Company Starlights Youth Theatre’s Grease: The Musical. Stunning costumes, vibrant choreography and some very talented kids – tell me about it, stud…

AMTC’s Starlights Youth Theatre production had it all, belting voices, characterisation way beyond the children’s years and professional-standard energy, all tied together in a sing-a-long spectacular.

The talent was unbelievable and every member of the audience could see hard work and dedication had gone into such a show. The actors did not compromise on enthusiasm and were hopelessly devoted to their performance.

There were stand out performances from Rizzo played by Lily Sitch-Oliver and Kenickie played by William Parker (both of whom danced to a professional standard – complete with splits!). All the pink ladies; Frenchy (Imogen Paterson), Jan (Bethany Griffiths) and Marty (Jaida-Mai Pledge) were fierce, charismatic and full of sass, and of course their very own Sandy (Lucy Sumner) and Danny (Joe Sartin) were fabulous and their harmonies - angelic.

Alfie Waters, who played Sonny, had crafted his character down to a tee, complete with impeccable comic timing and an attitude to match.

It was time for Jake Ward to “go back to high school” as he took to the stage to appear as the debonair Teen Angel – a character many would agree, he was born to play.

The audience were captivated by the cast’s true professionalism and there are stages in the West End waiting for some of the cast. I have no doubt we’ll be seeing them succeed in the very near future. Utter brilliance, a total knock out performance.

Congratulations to all involved. Grease, is most definitely, the word!
