A JAPANESE organist will perform at the Fairground Hall, in Weyhill.

Chiho Sunamoto will be the next guest artist for the Weyhill Electronic Organ Society’s (WEOS) concert on Thursday, 21 August.

Originally from Matsuyama, in the south of Japan, she began by learning the piano at the age of three, progressing to the local Yamaha Music School at the age of nine to learn the art of organ playing.

During her time at St Katerina University, where she studied opera singing, piano and classical organ, Chiho became one of the youngest players to pass Yamaha’s top exam – a Grade 3 Music Diploma.

On two occasions, Chiho was a finalist in the Yamaha Electone (organ) Festival, which led to offers of work from Yamaha as an overseas demonstrator and contracts with two of Japan’s major television stations, where she composed and performed for a variety of shows.

Now settled in the north east of England, Chiho has continued to perform both nationally and internationally.

The concert will start at 7.30pm and tickets, priced at £5, are available from Mimmo (Hair Stylist) in Bridge Street or £6 at the door.
