HUNDREDS of people have packed out a meeting on plans for more than 1,000 homes near Botley.

With many campaigners kitted out in 'Save Botley Golf Course' t shirts, there was even a short protest outside Kings Community Church in Hedge End this evening.

Councillors from Eastleigh Borough Council are meeting to discuss plans for 1,400 homes at Boorley Green, on the site of Botley Park Golf Course.

The Liberal Democrat-run council say the homes are needed to deal with a growing housing waiting list and provide community facilities, a new school and road improvements.

But protesters say it will tear the community apart - with the small hamlet of Boorley Green being swamped by the development.

Around 400 people have come to the meeting of Hedge End, West End and Botley Area Committee to see the decision.

Speakers have been given extra time to put across their views on the plans.

A decision is expected later this evening.
