ANDOVER-based Steve Evans has been selected from more than 3,000 AA patrols nationwide to star as an expert in a series of online video podcasts demonstrating simple car maintenance checks.

The podcasts - for which Steve had to take part in an X-Factor style audition - were voted for online by readers of Autoexpress.co.uk The AA created the podcasts to give motorists a helping hand after research revealed that eight out of 10 motorists said they would undertake simple car maintenance checks if someone showed them what to do.

Steve, aged 26, is one of six AA patrols picked to star in the AA podcasts, which are available to download now on the AA website www.theAApodcast.com.

He can be seen showing viewers how to change a windscreen wiper blade.

Steve said: "There's been many an occasion when a driver has told me that they'd have gladly performed a check if only someone had shown them how to do it - that's why the podcasts are such a great idea.

"While they were fun to star in, there is a serious message. We always advise drivers to make careful preparations before setting out on a car journey and that includes checking things like your car's coolant and oil levels, tyre tread and pressures. By spending just an extra 10 minutes, you could avoid unnecessary breakdowns."
