A MAN has been fined more than £1,000 and has been banned from driving after being caught over twice the legal drink driving limit on Roman Way.
Martin Howard Campbell, of Flitcroft, Amesbury, was stopped by police on 4 December driving a Vauxhall Astra with 92 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - - the legal limit is 35 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath.
The 53-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge after appearing at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 19 December.
He was ordered to pay a £650 fine, £65 victim services surcharge and costs of £85.
Campbell was also disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 24 months, which could be reduced by 26 weeks if he completed an approved course.
He also pleaded guilty to driving while not wearing a seat belt and for this offence he was fined £250.
