A COMMUNITY day held by a high-flying football club proved to be great fun for all the family.

Before their match against Petersfield Town on Saturday, 27 January, Andover Town FC invited guests of all ages down to Portway Stadium for an afternoon of events.

A group of 20 children were given the opportunity to take a penalty against the club’s chairman, John Ward, who made his comeback between the sticks after 20 years.

Lucky scorers received a free hot dog to reward their success, but every young attendee could also be treated to face painting, squash and sweets during an afternoon focused on family fun.

Me Ward is keen for Andover residents of all ages to come down and cheer on the table-topping team in the future. He added: “We want get more people down to Portway to see what we are all about.”

The initiative helped bring around 200 fans come to the match.

To top the day off, Andover Town won the game against Petersfield Town 5-3 to continue their dominance of the league.
