A NEW scheme to combat loneliness in the town was launched on Monday.

Pioneered by a community interest group named Our Andover, the Chatty Cafe scheme began this week, giving a chance for strangers to meet up and chat across five of Andover cafes.

The first chatter and natter table was held on Monday at Coffee #1, with Andover Town Mayor, Councillor Barbara Long officially launching the scheme.

She said: “It gives me great pleasure to launch the chatter and natter table.

“Chatter and natter tables create a space for people to talk.

“If you're here on your own and you want to come and chat to somebody, you can come to this table every Monday morning, it’ll be lovely to see you.”

Over 100 cafes across the UK are taking part in the scheme, which is supported by the late Jo Cox foundation to help combat loneliness. Other cafes taking part in Andover are Costa Coffee, Butters, Blue Onion and the Wellington Centre Dukes Café, each with a designated time and date allowing people to drop in and socialise.
