A MAN has been arrested after a spate of graffiti on buildings in Andover including a church and the Guildhall.
The attack on St Mary’s Church, and a commemorative water fountain in Andover town centre took place last week.
Following a post on social media by Test Valley Borough Council two lines of enquiry were handed to police.
And today (Wednesday) a man has been charged with various criminal damage offences.
Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, councillor Phil North, said: “We worked closely with the police to investigate this incident and I am pleased that they have now arrested and charged someone. I hope this sends a message to others that such behaviour will not be tolerated in our town.”
During the arrest a police officer was injured after being assaulted by the man, receiving cuts and bruising to his face. The offender has also been charged with assaulting a police officer.
He has been released on bail.
The full story and community reaction will be in this week's Advertiser.
