A WEYHILL family has donated £1,000 to a charity in memory of their little girl who died of brain cancer.

Faith Sharpe lost her battle with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) in September 2017 and the family have been raising money for one of the charities in the UK which researches into the rare type of brain tumour.

And as part of their mission the family were surprised when the St Michaels and All Angels church decided to donate funds from the Weyhill Fun Day in July.

It was then decided that the money would be donated to Abbie's Army which was launched by Amanda and Ray Mifsud in late 2012 in memory of their daughter who died of (DIPG).

Abbie was diagnosed at six-years-old and lost her fight with DIPG brain cancer just five months after her diagnosis.

The brain tumour research charity’s mission aims to raise awareness of the disease and provide support for other parents dealing with their child’s illness.

Faith's mum Laura said: "They are doing research into DIPG and they are one of the only ones in the UK and the research is severely underfunded.

"With my daughter passing away nearly a year ago we wanted to raise as much money as we can so other families don't need to go through what we did."

The funds were presented to the family at a church service last month by funday organisers and members of the church congregation.

"It was lovely of the church as we had Faith's funeral at the church that is how they knew. We are very grateful."

Each year DIPG affects around 40 children and Abbie’s Army is committed to helping their families.
