KEEN swimmers will be waiting until next year before an Overton pool will be open to the community.

Lordsfield Swimming Club is still in negotiations over a 25-year contract for the outdoor facility, facing an outstanding issue of Overton Primary School’s use of the pool under the lease which is trying to be resolved.

Club committee chair Lauren McCann said: “I’m sorry to report that despite our very best efforts to conclude negotiations and sign a lease on the pool, we have not yet been able to do so in order to get the pool open this season.

“We have been trying to get the pool open for at least a short time this year.

“The trustees have decided to write off this season and work to ensure all is ready to open for a full season in 2019.”

The club did not give up all hope in opening the pool this year and asked Hampshire County Council (HCC) if it could open to the community for one weekend only.

Unfortunately due to “major building works” at the school, HCC didn’t give the greenlight.

Meanwhile, LSC is encouraging supporters to back white water kayaker Scotty Sherwell who is training for an adventure down Llanberis Waterfall, in Wales, which has an 127 foot drop, in aid of the swimming pool and club.
