DOGS and their handlers from a Freefolk-based flyball club were a cut above the rest at a national championship.

Flyball team Wicked, bagged themselves three shields in the British Flyball Associations Outdoor Championships in August, and none of the other 270 teams matched that level of success, according to the group.

The sport is a relay fashioned race of two teams of dogs, racing a 51-foot long course, running over jumps and retrieving a ball.

Across the club, the Wicked Wobbles, Wicked Elite and Wicked teams all won their divisions.

Club member Hilary Larkham said: “If you haven’t seen this dog sport before it is fast, furious and exciting.

“Running a dog in a team that achieves a divisional win at the champs is something that every flyballer aspires to yet not many will achieve.

“Suffice to say for everyone involved it was an experience they will never forget, the pressure, the crowds around the ring and this year saw live streaming too.”

The flyball club is running a six-week starters course from October 6, for those interested to try out the dog-loving sport.
