A FESTIVAL of football featured a string of matches played on Sunday, September 16.

Andover New Street Football Club’s Streets Ahead team played non-competitive matches with clubs from Woking, Feltham, Basingstoke and the Isle of Wight, and all players received a medal at the end of the day.

Streets Ahead aims to be an inclusive football club for people of all ages and sexes that find it difficult to participate in “mainstream” teams.

Asda Andover community champion Yvonne Nicholson presented the club with a £523.38 cheque before the games begun, which has gone towards buying match footballs and a football uniform for the newly formed Streets Ahead Swifts.

Streets Ahead will be competing in the Saints Foundation County Disability League this season with three teams, Streets Ahead in the Premier League, Streets Ahead Swifts in the Championship League and Streets Ahead Saints in the Participation League.

The matches take place at Toynbee School, Eastleigh.

The club is encouraging players of any age who are unable to play in a mainstream team to join Streets Ahead.
