ANDOVER’s only comic book festival made a successful return earlier this month.

The annual Andover Comic-Fest drew in the crowds at The White Hart, in Bridge Street, on Saturday, September 8.

Film fans had the chance to meet actors Brian Wheeler and Michael Henbury, who both appeared as ewoks in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, Gringotts Bank goblins in the Harry Potter franchise and the later was in the 1986 cult film Labyrinth as a member of the Goblin Corps.

The event was started four years ago by Adam Butterfield and Mark Williams.

Stuart Gatward, who is now part of the team who organises the event, said: “Adam, Mark, and myself have all been huge comic book geeks since we were kids and we’ve been to quite a few Comic Book conventions around the UK. However, there’s nothing really that local to us in regards to comic book stores or events. Knowing that a lot of our friends felt the same way, it seemed to be the most obvious way of getting a local event was to create one.

Stuart added: “Feedback from the event has been very encouraging from both visitors and exhibitors. We had over 100 people that attended this year and we have both our main guests to thank, Brian Wheeler and Michael Henbury.

“The first event was just to try it out and see if this could work, year after year it’s grown. This has been the best year so far; with two known actors from three of the most popular film franchises and local artists.”
