A CARE home manager has been shortlisted for two national awards.

Iain Slack, general manager at The Arbory Residential Care Home, in London Road, has been shortlisted in the Dementia Care Manager of the Year Award in both the National Care Home Awards and National Dementia Care Awards.

When hearing he had been shortlisted for not one but two awards, Iain said: “[I am] absolutely delighted for the Arbory, the team and all of those involved with the home.

“Understanding dementia has been a life-long learning experience for me and to help others including families through their journey has been an honour and the team at the Arbory look forward to supporting many more individuals and their loved ones”.

Vishal Shah, a director of the Arbory, added: “We are all incredibly proud of Iain who is not only an amazing care manager but also one of the most knowledgeable people around when it comes to supporting people with dementia.

“Iain is passionate about ensuring that the residents within the Arbory receive the best possible dementia care at all times. He also makes sure however that the home’s team receive the best dementia care training so they too can dedicate themselves to improving the lives of the homes residents.”

Louise Clark, a close friend and colleague of one of the home’s residents, said: “Iain is an amazing manager and his management approach is exceptional.

“Iain’s insight into dementia is outstanding and his belief that those with dementia do not need drugs to control, or sedate, residents is obvious in the way that the Arbory, under Iain’s management, is a very harmonious home with residents free to be themselves. Iain’s principles of love, care and respect are evident in all the staff engagements with residents too and we believe, under Iain’s guidance, that the Arbory provides the best care for people with dementia anywhere in the UK.

“Iain’s understanding of dementia and his advice and support for family and friends is remarkable too. The care industry should look to Iain’s lead to understand how to raise standards of dementia care in the UK.”

The winners will be announced at awards dinners on November 8 and 30.
