BASINGSTOKE Lions Club is looking to help those who are less able to see on World Sight Day.

The group will be running a stall for people to hand over their no-longer-needed glasses for the from 9am to 3pm on Thursday, 11 October.

The stall will be in The Malls, near Boots, and donated glasses are sent off around the world to the less fortunate.

Lions Clubs internationally will be doing similar events, and more than 300,000 pairs of glasses were collected across Great Britain and Ireland. They were all sent to eye camps in Africa, India and Eastern Europe in partnership with Medico Lions Clubs de France.

Between noon and 2pm, Lennie the Lion will be prowling around looking for unwanted glasses.

Visitors can also pick up leaflets, receive advice on help available and see small items of equipment, all relating to impaired vision. Various local sight loss organisations are also supporting the day through the supply of literature and equipment, and opticians in the town are also giving their usual support.
