A BASINGSTOKE dance teacher has achieved silver at a national awards ceremony.

Becky Lane, the creator of the Movin’ Monkeez programme, was the runner up in her category at the What’s on 4 Kids Awards.

Becky, pictured, was announced as a finalist in the Most Outstanding Activity Leader for children aged 5 to 12 category and managed to take home the silver medal for her efforts with Movin’ Monkeez.

The idea of the programme is to help children live a healthy lifestyle, while having fun through dance and fitness.

The winners at the 12th annual What’s on 4 Kids Awards are decided by community votes, with Becky getting the second highest number of votes in her category.

Becky teaches in many settings in and around Basingstoke and has done for the past eight years.

She said she is passionate about getting children moving and educating them on the importance of health and fitness. The Movin Monkeez programme also compliments the EYFS and Key Stage curriculum which is important for nurseries and schools.

What’s On 4 Events director Suzanne Borrell said: “Each and every year it’s a pleasure to welcome back so many activities, keen to be part of these National awards once again but it’s also so exciting to see the new nominees from this thriving sector being showcased for the first time.

“We know from parents’ testimonials how clubs, classes and individual leaders have such a positive impact on the lives of their children and it’s an honour therefore to publically recognise and celebrate these activity providers in this way.”
