STAFF at a nursing home have been taking a proactive approach to understanding more about dementia.
Oak Lodge Nursing Home staff have been visited by the Virtual Dementia Tour training course, which simulates the world of someone with dementia to better understand the needs of some of their residents.
The staff then took their experiences and looked to change their environment and practice to improve the care that they provide.
Registered manager at the Rectory Road facility, Grace Adan, said: “The experience was scary, isolating and confusing which we feel should not be missed and will truly change the lives of people with the disease.
“The team had an amazing experience which will stay with them throughout their career in health and social care and give an excellent insight into the world of dementia.”
