COUNCILLORS have given a school’s amended floodlight scheme the go-ahead.

Farleigh School, in Red Rice, applied to Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) to install floodlights at its artificial turf pitch in 2016 and was given the green light.

But it lodged another application in August to vary a condition to provide modern and efficient lighting, with the main changes being the the type of lights and the light levels which have reduced.

The proposal went before TVBC’s northern area planning committee on October 4 and members agreed the scheme should be approved.

Within its application the school said that the new floodlighting was needed to “meet the needs of the sports curriculum of the school” and the “outstanding need” for extra facilities in the community.

It is proposed that columns will be used until 7pm Monday to Friday, until 6pm on Saturday and not on Sunday, but it had been discussed whether the floodlight restriction could be extended to 9.30pm to meet the future training needs of Andover Hockey Club as a second pitch.
