CYCLISTS riding through the picturesque Hampshire countryside managed to raise more than £10,000 to help provide new medical equipment.

The third annual North Hampshire Medical Fund Cycle Sportive event took place on October 7, with riders taking on 85, 45 or a family-friendly 12-mile routes.

Nearly 250 cyclists set off from Inhurst Farm in Baughurst to raise funds for the charity which supports Basingstoke hospital by helping purchase the latest in medical equipment.

The money raised from the Cycle Sportive will go towards a new Infectious Disease Molecular Diagnosis for Microbiology.

This cutting-edge molecular technology will allow staff at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) to expand their portfolio of infectious disease tests and repatriate a number of reference lab tests too, to the benefit of patients.
