AN ANDOVER man has been charged with rape in connection with an attack on a woman in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Ilie Cimpoesu, of Walled Meadow, Andover, has been charged with two counts of rape and assault by penetration.
The 20-year-old appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court yesterday morning and was remanded in custody.
This charge is in relation to an incident which happened shortly before 5am on Saturday in which police officers were called to the London Road area of Andover following a report that a 35-year-old woman had been raped.
Officers had been seen in the area around the junction of London Road and London Street, with forensics teams present, and a path near Longstock Court cordoned off.
Detectives investigating the case are still looking to hear from the driver of a car and a cyclist who were in the area at the time of the reported attack.
Anyone with any information which could help the investigation is asked to call 101, quoting the reference number 44180403787.
