ARMY cadets from Overton were put through their paces in a national competition which saw them beat teams from across the country.

Eight cadets won the Tiger Cup competition, held by the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment, on October 6 and 7, where they put their fieldcraft, military knowledge and other skills to the test.

Jack Targett, Alec Painter, Chris Thompson, Louise Etheridge, Bertie Mitchell, Aaron Johnson, Megan King and Leon Chappell also won the First Aid and Observation stands alongside the whole event.

The event took place at Crowborough training camp, East Sussex, with the cadet champions accompanied by Sergeant Alex Baker and Second Lieutenant Steve Slack.

Sgt Baker said: “The event was challenging for all especially as it was very cold and very windy on Saturday when the main events took place.

“We are very proud of what the team achieved by not only winning but also finishing ahead of another team from Hants and Isle of Wight Army Cadet Force. The cadets found the challenge extremely rewarding and are already looking forward to next year where they will defend their title.”

Other areas the troops were tested included skill at arms.
