ANDOVER High Street will be lit up for Christmas on Friday, November 16.

The lights switch-on will run from 5pm to 7.30pm with Father Christmas set to appear, as well as local acts including Sing for Fun, Kate Stevens and the Vigo School Choir.

But there is set to be plenty of entertainment off the stage too with reindeer on stilts, rides and hot food for visitors to enjoy.

The Christmas tree and lights will be provided by Andover Town Council.

Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Councillor Phil North, said: “The Andover Christmas Lights Switch On is one of the premier family friendly events in Andover’s calendar, and marks the beginning of festivities for the High Street.

“This is the perfect example of local organisations working in collaboration with Test Valley Borough Council to put on an event which showcases Andover at its best.”

The night will be completed by the switching on of the Christmas lights at 7.30pm followed by a firework display provided by The Chantry Centre.

Visitors to the town centre for the event are being advised the lane which runs from the George Yard car park towards the High Street will be closed from 5.30pm for the duration of the event.
