A SINGER with a passion for volunteering took her talent to a local care home for an afternoon of musical entertainment to benefit the residents.

Victoria Parkinson, who volunteers in care homes around Hampshire, performed last week for the residents of Harrier Grange in Hawker Siddeley Way.

Victoria charmed all with her soulful renditions of Vera Lynn and other well-known classics from the 1940s era as part of the home’s lively entertainment line-up.

The singer, who has had a love of music since she was a child, regularly volunteers as a performer for care homes, and also sings at weddings and special occasions.

She said: “Whenever I sing at care homes the most enjoyable thing is changing people’s moods. It isn’t easy to predict how residents are going to take to your singing or song choices. So, reading the room and coming up with a song that lifts the spirits of those who may not be feeling their best in that moment is always a heart-warming moment.

Harrier Grange care home director Kay Jerrams said: “The residents were very taken with her and they were singing along to the songs too.

“From our experience, activities which involve music are always a hit. We find music is particularly valuable to our residents as it brings such a wide range of benefits.”
