WOMEN’s Institute (WI) members shared their charitable efforts with a hospice last week.

Whitchurch WI president Adele Gilchrist and member Christine Brown presented the Countess of Brecknock Hospice staff with a £400 cheque from their latest fundraising efforts.

The money was raised in the Rotations Charity shop in Whitchurch, and was gifted in memory of WI member Joan Gregory who spent a few days in the hospice before she died aged 87 at the end of 2017.

Joan had been a member of the Whitchurch WI for nine years and had previously been a member at Laverstoke and Andover.

Whitchurch WI secretary Judy Hopkins said: “She lived in Whitchurch all her life, in the house where she was born. Her sister Pat and brother Gerald kindly donated many items from her house to be sold in the Rotations shop.

“Rotations is a brilliant resource for Whitchurch and demonstrates how worthwhile recycling can be. Last year, over £50,000 was raised there for charity. Local groups run it, usually for one or two weeks, normally clearing everything at the end of their tenure, so the stock changes regularly.

“Volunteers work hard — but it is worth it — and local people are very generous in their support.”
