VISITORS to the Top of Town can now spot a seasonal treat as a one-of-a-kind musical and visual animation is being projected.

The three-minute-long animation called The Night Before Christmas is being projected onto the Willis Museum.

The projection’s content includes a nod to Basingstoke’s history, with creative references to the famous novels of Jane Austen.

The projection will take place every day until Christmas Eve with shows every half an hour from 4pm to 9pm every day except Wednesday and Saturday, when the shows will start at 5pm.

The Christmas projection is being run by Basingstoke Together, the face of the Basingstoke Business Improvement District (BID).

Lucy Boazman, chief executive of Basingstoke Together, said: “Amongst the twinkling fairy lights in the trees of Market Square and festive window displays at the Top of Town, the Willis Museum is also being suitably dressed for the season. This stunning projection is a great way for shoppers to stop and take a moment to enjoy the spirit of the season amongst the frenzy.

“It is the first time a show like this has come to Basingstoke. We hope that not only will it encourage more people of all ages to find out how much the Top of Town in Basingstoke has to offer but also ensure that they have an unforgettable time whilst they are there. We would like to thank both Barclays Bank and the Hampshire Cultural Trust for using their buildings so this special projection could be brought to life.”

The projection was created by 3D animators One Bright Dot, which have produced content for I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Match of the Day, the BAFTAs and Sky TV. The projection is specifically designed to perfectly map onto the Willis Museum, making it a unique addition to the Christmas in Basingstoke festivities.

Chris Berks, creative director of One Bright Dot, said: “We were thrilled to be able to help out and add some festive sparkle to such a beautiful building as the Willis Museum. It really is something spectacular and has brought Christmas to this Basingstoke landmark.”
