REGIONAL MPs have expressed their support for the Prime Minister Theresa May as she fights to save her leadership of the Conservative party.

North West Hampshire MP Kit Malthouse and Devizes MP Claire Perry took to social media this morning to back their party leader.

The Conservative leader will face a vote of no confidence at 6pm after at least 48 members of the party have written letters to trigger the ballot.

Mr Malthouse Tweeted: "Hear Hear" in response to comments from Home Secretary Sajid Javid as well as fellow Tory MP Geoffrey Cox, both hitting out against the political stand.

Mr Javid said: "The last thing our country needs right now is a Conservative Party leadership election. Will be seen as self-indulgent and wrong. PM has my full support and is best person to ensure we leave EU on 29 March."

Ms Perry also Tweeted: "What a silly act of self-indulgence by those who want to risk No-Deal or No-Brexit. I’m backing @theresa_may 110%."

In the south of Test Valley, Southampton and Romsey MP Caroline Nokes said the prime minister has her "full support".

Ms Nokes in a statement on Twitter said: "The PM has my full support.

"Brexit was never going to be easy and we need to back her to deliver on that and our domestic programme.

"Being PM is a phenomenally difficult job and she is the best person for it."
