EVERSLEY recently had a visit from an England international cricket star.

Eversley Indoor Cricket Club, near Hook, had a visit from England and Somerset County spin bowler Jack Leach on Thursday, 6 December to open up a new pop-up shop.

The Millichamp and Hall shop which opened inside the cricket club serves the members and the young people who use the facility.

Jack had a training session with the younger members of the cricket club, showing them a few bowling techniques and batting practice.

He also stayed around to talk to the children and sign autographs, as well as answer cricketing-related questions.

Speaking to The Gazette, Jack said: "I've seen a lot of the school kids who wanted to come down and it has been really nice to meet everyone and be here.

"It's been a good reaction, and kids seem to enjoy it, and have a keen interest in cricket, which is great to see.

"Hopefully, it will keep them inspired to play at county level and beyond."

The shop will be around in the cricketing facilities for a while, selling a variety of cricketing paraphernalia, including bats and balls.

Director at Eversley Indoor Cricket Centre, James Phillips, said: "It was fantastic to have Jack down here and that he made the effort to come all the long way from Taunton.

"He's been very nice to everyone, very modest, and an absolute delight. I'd like to thank Jack for taking the time out to come down and join us.

"This is the first time we have had an in-house shop, especially one like this, and it is delightful to work with Millichamp and Hall, which makes quality products.

"It really fits in with the place.

"Here at the club we aim to have facilities available to absolute beginners, and as has been seen, Test level players."
