A BUDDING footballer scored a once-in-a-lifetime experience as he was selected to play at a world famous team’s stadium.

Andover Town Youth FC players Patrick McDonnell and Kian Timms were among 50 selected to play at Real Madrid’s clinics regional finals in London on December 2.

The duo went along to the event after Real Madrid held a five-day training camp in Andover and they were chosen for the next stage based on their performance.

In the London finals the boys played together against other teams of mixed ages from under 12s to under 16s, with Patrick being chosen to go on to play at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu stadium as one of five overall winners.

Kian also made the shortlist for the top spot from their team.

ATYFC chairman Simon Timms said: “Kian and Patrick were put forward by their team coach to progress but there was only one space for them.

“Both boys worked extremely hard and Patrick got the majority vote for his determination to always win the ball back, his overall work rate and great team spirit.

“He will now go forward to play at the Bernabeu with other players from all around Europe , I am sure Patrick will represent Andover Town Youth FC and England to the highest standard being the perfect sportsman he is.

“All at ATYFC wish you all the luck Patrick go and enjoy.”

As well as playing at the stadium, Patrick will get a tour around the home ground and other perks.

ATYFC will be hosting another Real Madrid associated clinic next summer, from August 5 to 9.
