A PAYROLL manager at an Andover-based charity has scooped an international award recognising her work.

Michelle Hammerton, payroll manager at the Enham Trust won the Student of the Year Award at the International Association of Bookkeepers’ (IAB) Awards held at Westminster Palace on December 6.

Michelle began working at the Enham Trust nearly five years ago and was promoted to manager after two years with the organisation.

Upon receiving the award, Michelle said: “What does it mean to me? Well I think for me its recognition that my hard work has been recognised. It has been extremely hard work trying to juggle my studying with my full-time job as a payroll manager.”

“My dream is to start a business of my own offering a payroll and bookkeeping service, so this has given me such a boost, I am extremely proud of myself and my inbox is full of agencies asking if I will be interested in a position they are trying to fill. So, I also think this could also open a few doors of opportunities for me.”

The Enham Trust is a charity which helps disabled people live the lives they choose by being in control of their own life. It assists with care, housing and employment.

Its services include residential care homes, care at home, day and leisure opportunities, employment and skills and housing.

In 2017, the Enham Trust became the first Disability Confident Leader accredited organisation under the Department for Work and Pensions Disability Confident Scheme.

The trust supports clients in recruiting their own staff. This is where Michelle and her team apply their support, ensuring that their clients are fully compliant with payroll regulations.

Janet Jack, chief executive at the IAB, added: “Congratulations to all of our winners. It was tough to choose the winners, but Michelle Hammerton is a well deserving winner in the Student of the Year category.”
