A CHILDREN’S hairdressers has proved it’s a cut above the rest after a cash boost from the council.

J4K, in High Street, Andover, has been awarded £500 from Test Valley Borough Council’s (TVBC) Independent Retailer scheme.

It is the second cheque Sharon Liquorish has received from TVBC, the first given three months after she opened and, now, six months since the business was launched.

Sharon invested her savings into fitting out the unit, and she continues to go from strength-to-strength.

The hairdresser with more than 20 years of experience has previously worked for other hairdressers in the town, but opened her venture after spotting a gap in the market in children’s hairdressing.

She said: “I’ve been really overwhelmed by the reaction I’ve had from the town. I was hoping that children could feel relaxed here and so far that has been the case.”

“I put my savings into getting this place off the ground and I’ll always be grateful to Test Valley Borough Council for their help, support and advice when I needed it.”

She was presented the cheque by Andover St Marys ward member Councillor John Cockaday.

He said: “Sharon used her business sense, identified a market gap and has gone on to be a valuable member of our town. J4K is loved by children and I’m sure has made many parents happy in the process. I wish Sharon nothing but further success in the future.”
