THE memories that your pictures of the mummers brought back to me (Advertiser, January 4, ‘Return of village’s festive tradition’ [Overton Mummers])!
I would have been about 11-years-old when the wall paper books came through our door in New Street, Andover.
My brothers and cousins used to go miles playing their parts and the one I used to like to hear was ‘In Comes Old Father Xmas’.
One night something happened when they met a bunch of soldiers who had just come out of a pub — out came their lighters and matches and they tried to set fire to them. Never mind — good old days — something you never forget.
Happy times.
