ADVICE about how to take the sting out of energy bills is being handed out for Big Energy Saving Week this month.

Charity Citizens Advice Test Valley will be hosting a display in the Chantry Centre on January 24 from 10am to 3pm and giving out tips to help people to cut down their costs.

Big Energy Saving Week is a national campaign encouraging people to follow a three-step process of ‘check, switch and save’.

Ange Moon, chief officer of Citizens Advice Test Valley, said: “Big Energy Saving Week is a fantastic opportunity to get expert advice on a range of ways you can reduce your energy costs.

“Switching your tariff or supplier is normally the quickest and most effective way to bring your costs down but you can also modify your home and change your habits.

“It’s important for us to be taking part in Big Energy Saving Week as it’s older people and those on the lowest incomes who are likely to paying over the odds for their energy as they’re the least likely to switch.

“We encourage as many people as possible to attend the event or to use our energy comparison tool to check for savings.”

The Citizens Advice team will be on hand at their exhibition to show people their energy comparison tool so they can look to switch suppliers, once details such as the name of energy supplier and tariff are provided.

Advice on entitlement to benefits, grants or discounts and other cost-cutting measures could also be discussed.

Appointments can be booked with the team in Andover to help them work through the process.
