A MAN is to go on trial for rape in connection with an attack on a woman in Andover last year.
Ilie Cimpoesu, of Walled Meadow, Andover, is accused of two counts of rape and one of assault by penetration.
The 20-year-old appeared at Winchester Crown Court on Monday when a trial date was set.
The incident happened shortly before 5am on Saturday, October 27 - police officers were called to the London Road area following a report that a 35-year-old woman had been raped.
On Monday, Judge Keith Cutler set a date for the trial, which will be held at Salisbury Crown Court, beginning on April 29.
Mr Cimpoesu was remanded back into custody following the hearing.
