A SPUD-TACULAR weekend was had as visitors turned up in droves to the 21st Hampshire Potato Day.

Record numbers attended the two-day event at Testbourne Community School where stalls for vegetables, flower seeds and potatoes, as well as local businesses, lined the venue.

A total of 120 types of potato were on offer and children were gifted a coloured potato tuber to have some fun growing their own.

Organiser Phil Cooper was pleased to see some newcomers to the event alongside the potato enthusiasts.

He said: “We had a good time, everyone who was there seemed to enjoy it.

“We had more stalls than we ever had before. There were plenty of kids there which we also like to see.”

The success of the day Phil also attributed to the support from the Whitchurch community.

Phil added: “The event we have really happens because of the amount of help we get from Whitchurch.

“The Friends of Whitchurch Primary School who were a great support, and 1st Whitchurch Scouts manned the doors very, very efficiently and looked after the car park.”

The spudding event will return next year.
