AN EVENT honouring the armed forces has been pulled back from the brink of postponement.

Tidworth Armed Forces Day will go ahead in June, after organisers announced in February that this year’s event might not take place, citing a lack of suitable space.

Last year the inaugural event was held at the sports field in St Andrews Road, but roadworks taking place in the town would make access difficult, it was feared.

However, after months of searching, last week organisers said the day will go ahead, on a smaller scale, on the community centre field.

Tracy Jones, committee secretary, said: “We are just over the moon, we can’t wait now and are so excited.”

The committee had previously looked at the field as an option.

“We had already looked at the area but we weren’t sure if it would be too small, and properly made a rough plan for the day and thought actually it would work,” Tracy added.

“We’ve had such a positive reaction to it going ahead, so many people are glad that it is going ahead and fully support it, it makes our decision to carry on worth it.”

The committee is now booking the main arena events and stallholders, with Tracy adding on social media: “This will be a smaller event than last year but nevertheless a day to enjoy and celebrate the Armed Forces, past, present and future.”

Tidworth Armed Forces Day will take place on Saturday, June 22, from noon to 5pm on the Tidworth Community Centre field.
